Esther Mae Hovious, 92, of Hutchinson, died March 24, 2018, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born March 20, 1926, in Hutchinson, to John and Esther (Brower) Edie.
She was a homemaker and mother until her children were a little bit older; then she worked seasonally as a gift wrapper at Pegues Department Store. Esther worked as a cook for the Hutchinson Public School District for many years. She taught Sunday School for several years before becoming a member of Crossroads Christian Church. She especially enjoyed baking pies, sewing and quilting projects, and gardening in her spare time.
Esther married Jay Christian Hovious on June 1, 1943, in Newton. He died July 4, 2012.
Survivors include: son, Jim Hovious and wife Sharon of Hutchinson; daughters, Nancy McGaughey and husband Mak, Kathy Crank and husband Rich all of Hutchinson; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 3 great great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, and sister, Jean Frost.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, March 30, 2018, at Elliott Chapel with Pastors Lee Keele and Kevin Guffey presiding. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to service time, at Elliott Mortuary.
