Ethel Marie McMichael Milburn Geesling, 84, died Sept. 18, at Hester Care Center, Wesley Towers.
She was born Dec. 17, 1922, in rural Penalosa, the daughter of Edward and Pearl McCormac McMichael. She was a resident of Hutchinson since 2004, moving from Turon, and was formerly of Penalosa. She graduated from Penalosa High School, Kansas State University and the University of Kansas School of Nursing and attending the Illinois Research and Educational Hospital, Chicago. She was a registered nurse and postmaster in Penalosa for 31 years.
She was a life member of Penalosa United Methodist Church and an organist for a number of years. She was a member of the Cadet Nurse Corps in World War II and USO. She was also a member of the KU School of Nursing Alumni Association, National Association of Postmasters Retired, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, 50-year member of Della Chapter No. 172 O.E.S., Kingman, life member of KSU Alumni Association and was a former member and leader of the Penalosa 4-H Club.
On June 22, 1947, she married John Edward Milburn in Kingman. He died Nov. 3, 1966. She then married Warren B. Geesling on Jan. 18, 1981, in Penalosa. He died March 9, 2006.
Survivors include: two sons, Bruce Alan Milburn and wife, Sandra, Cunningham, and Byron Lee Milburn, Kingman; stepson, Jerry Geesling and wife, Cynthia, Turon; stepdaughter, Jayne Otis and husband, Donnie, Goddard; stepson-in-law, Marnie Thaete and wife, Geri, Wichita; two nephews, Ed and Mike Covington, both of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a niece, Linda Barnett, Scottsdale, Ariz.; grandchildren include Jacob and Mikayla Milburn, Matt Medley, Michelle West, Jannell Strasbaugh, Kristen Law, Aaron Thaete, Kalli Harvey, Janna Silvay, Ronda Hatfield; and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Alyce Covington; and a stepdaughter, Marilyn Thaete.
Memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Wesley Towers Chapel. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary. Her body has been willed to the University of Kansas School of Medicine. Burial will be at a later date in Hoosier Cemetery, rural Kingman.
