Ethel Leah Newell, 87, of Hutchinson, passed away Saturday, September 22, 2018. She was born May 8, 1931, in Matheson, CO, the daughter of Ira Newton and Nellie Ethel (Drinen) Diggs.

She was a farm wife helping her husband in the farm operations in McAllaster, Weskan and Arlington. Ethel was a housekeeper for Friendship Manor for seven years. She was also a member of Mt. Olivet Worship Center.

On April 5, 1959, she married Clifford Newell Sr. in Winona. He died March 8, 2007. Survivors include: children, Clifford Jr. of Hutchinson, Don and wife Kim of Goodland, and Patricia Smith and husband Jim of Signaw, TX; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by: her parents; brother, Edwin Diggs; sisters, Mary Jane Ramero, Ila Peery and husband Max; and daughter-in-law, Joyce Newell.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 26, 2018, at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor Kenn and Luanne Haddaway presiding. Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, September 27, 2018, at Winona Cemetery, Winona, Kansas. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Wednesday.
