Obituary

Eugene Lee "Gene" Mathis, 81, died February 16, 2018, at his home in Hutchinson. He was born February 15, 1937, in Hutchinson, the son of Edgar and Bertha (Smith) Mathis. Gene was a truck driver for Graves Truck Line and the United States Postal Service. He was a member of Teamsters Local 795.

On January 7, 1983, Gene married Sandra Ruble in Hutchinson. She survives.

Other survivors include: sons, Dan Mathis (Pam), Chad Mathis (Alex, Shannin), Eugene L. Mathis Jr., all of Hutchinson; daughter, Cindy Estes (Mark) of South Hutchinson; sister, Wilma Harrelson of Porter, TX; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and his beloved dog, Princess.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; son, Kenny; brothers, Jay and Edward; and brother-in-law, Glen Harrelson.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, February 21, 2018, at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5905 W 4th Ave., Hutchinson. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, with the family to receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. today, at Elliott Mortuary. Memorials may be made to Hutchinson Animal Shelter, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
