BURRTON - Eugene S. "Gene" Vincent, 81, died Aug. 16, 2006, at Hospice House, Hutchinson.
He was born June 13, 1925, in Burlington, the son of John Carl and Dorothy Jean Rifenbark Vincent. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1943 and from Salt City Business College. A longtime Hutchinson resident, moving to Burrton in 1983, he had been superintendent for Producers Dairy for 11 years and Jackson Ice Cream for 10 years, took over Roto-Rooter Sewer Service from his father and ran it for 20 years, and started Vincent's Plumbing and Sewer Business.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II with the 413th Infantry Division, receiving a Purple Heart. He was a life member of VFW Post 1824, American Legion Post 196, both of Burrton, AMVETS Post 11 for 37 years, and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2550, both of Hutchinson.
He married Norma Jean Helm and Eunice F. Willard. They preceded him in death. On Oct. 14, 1982, he married Mildred Jane Unruh Beal. She survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Gary, Hutchinson, and Ivan, San Francisco; two daughters, Sandra Morton, Plano, Texas, and Desiree Larson, Wichita; three stepchildren, Randall Beal, Burrton, Judy Elmore, Burrton, and Bonnie Chestnut, Hutchinson; a brother, Carl Vincent Jr., Search Light City, Nev.; a sister, Shirley Crossman, Hutchinson; three grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jack; a stepdaughter, Janet Chronister; three brothers, Darrell, Wendell and Leland Vincent; and two sisters, Margie Johnson and Twyla Burnett.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Kim Biery presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, with military graveside rites conducted by Fort Riley Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice of Reno County or American Cancer Society, both in care of the mortuary, Hutchinson.
