Obituary

Eugenia M. Cummings, 93, died July 26, 2016, at her home in Hutchinson, with her family present. She was born Nov. 2, 1922, in Cherokee, Okla., to Oliver and Olga (Josefiak) Eilts.

Eugenia married Chester G. Cummings Jan. 4, 1941, in St. John. He died Sept. 2, 1994.

Eugenia graduated from Pawnee Rock High School in 1940. She worked for 22 years as a secretary for the counselors at Hutchinson High School, as well as a seasonal secretary at the Kansas State Fair. Eugenia also enjoyed being a homemaker, a seamstress, painting, wheat-weaving, and writing. She was a member of the Hutchinson Writer's Club, the Women's Postal Auxiliary, Country Line Dancers, and Community Church of the Brethren.

Eugenia is survived by: daughter, Judi Swink and husband Hugh of Lenexa; grandson, Michael Swink of Washington, DC; granddaughter, Jaime Swink of Los Angeles, Calif.; and two special nieces, Kea Yanzick of Hamilton, Montana, and Gretta Peel of Denver, Colo. She was preceded in death by: son, Chris; brothers, Alvin and Robert; and sister, Josephine Thex.

Funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 30, 2016, at Community Church of the Brethren, 1600 N. Severance St., Hutchinson, with Pastor Marlo Otlman and Ed Switzer officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson.
