Eugenia Lucile Perkins, 92, died March 12, 2014, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. She was born Aug. 24, 1921, to Donald Eugene and Thelma Lucile Smith Putnam in Osborne County, Kan.

She graduated from Portis High School in Portis, Kan., and went on to teach grade school in a one room school house in Smith County.              On April 27, 1941, she married Royal Eugene Perkins in Portis, Kan. He survives.

Other survivors include: son, Melvin Perkins of Glenwood Springs, Colo.; daughters, Dee Simmons and husband Calvin of Wichita, Kan., Shelley Whisler and husband Doug of Hutchinson, Kan.; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; sister, Donna Bradley and husband Frank of Hays, Kan.; brother, Arden Putnam and wife JoAnn of Downs, Kan. She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Andrew Whisler; and brother, Galen Putnam; daughter-in-law, Phyllis Perkins.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, March 15, 2014, at Wesley Towers Chapel, 3709 Asbury Drive, Hutchinson, with Chaplain Jim Bush presiding. Burial will be in Crystal Plains Cemetery, Smith Center, Kan., at a later date. Friends may sign the memorial book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorial contributions to be made to Delos V. Smith Senior Center, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
