Obituary

Eulalia Pauline Hickman Scherer, 84, died Thursday, March 21, 2013. She was born July 23, 1928, in Minneapolis, Kan., the daughter of George G. and Pauline Fredericka Schick Hickman.

She was a graduate of Logan High School and received her teacher's certificate from Emporia State Teachers College and had taught in a one-room school. Eulalia had worked at OA Sutton in Wichita and Cessna and Collins Industries, Hutchinson. She later retired from Brookwood Printing, where she was a joint-owner with her husband, Chuck. Eulalia was a member of New Life Christian Church, Carey Park Women's Golf Association and Beta Phi Sorority. Her hobbies included floral design, sewing, quilting, golfing, playing cards and gardening, but she most enjoyed cooking and entertaining family and friends.

On Nov. 28, 1958, she married Charles S. "Chuck" Scherer. He survives.

Also surviving are: two sons, Maurice (Donna) Bastion of Hutchinson, Mark Bastion of Lawrence; a brother, Edwin Hickman of Englewood, Colo.; a sister, Deloris (Lloyd) Becker of Logan; two grandsons, Michael (Arden) Bastion and Jared Bastion, both of Hutchinson; six great-grandchildren, Teige and Dorran Bastion, Madeleine Bastion and Mauryn Kennedy, all of Hutchinson, Katelyn Bigler of Lawrence, Kylee Jarrett of Wichita; and 15 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and George Jr. Hickman, and her first husband, Daryl Bastion.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday, March 25, 2013, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastors John Frey and Wayne Pittman officiating. Burial will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2013, in Logan Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. to service time Monday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
