Evan Robert Essmiller, 32, died unexpectedly July 20, 2026, at his home in Hutchinson. He was born October 21, 1993, in Great Bend, to Scott Robert and Shawna Quynn (Scott) Essmiller.

Evan grew up in Great Bend, before his family moved to Hutchinson. He was a 2012 graduate of Hutchinson High School and received his associates degree from Hutchinson Community College.

Evan enjoyed all types of music, playing video games, cooking, drawing, traveling, and writing stories. While in junior high and high school, he played the viola with the orchestra. Evan cherished spending quality time with his family and with his two nephews, Bradley and Malachi.

Evan is survived by: his mother Shawna Essmiller; father, Scott Essmiller; sister, Julianne (Chris) Kemmerer; nephews, Bradley and Malachi Kemmerer, all of Hutchinson; maternal grandparents Sondra and Larry Boles of Edmond, OK and Allen Scott of Muleshoe, TX; paternal grandparents, Robert “Bob” and Evelyn Essmiller of Great Bend; uncles and aunts, Matt and Yvonne Creighton of Haysville, KS and Brett and Robin Krause of Parkville, MO; and cousins, Connor Creighton and Courtney (Avery) Woelk.

He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Geraldine and Garland Snow and Olena Fern and John R. Scott.

Memorial service will be held on Saturday August 29, 2026 at 11:00 am, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 5700 Broadway Ave., Great Bend, KS, with Pastor Julie Shields officiating. Private family inurnment will take place on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at Waco Cemetery, 500 W 95th St. S., Haysville, KS. Friends may sign Evan’s book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Milestone Clubhouse in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501. Milestone is a non-profit organization based in Hutchinson, KS dedicated to supporting adults throughout their mental health recovery journey.
