Obituary

Evelyn Chesney Baumer, 86, died Jan. 19, 2006, at her home, Hutchinson.

She was born Sept. 26, 1919, in Natoma, the daughter of Kent Loyal and Hazel Eola Day Chesney. She graduated from Natoma High School, Hutchinson Junior College and received her Bachelor of Science in Social Work from Wichita State University. A Hutchinson resident since 1938, she was a retired social worker and financial secretary.

She belonged to First United Methodist Church, where she was active in the United Methodist Women, Tri-M Sunday School Class and Circle 2. She served as secretary for the Hutchinson Symphony for 25 years, facilitated Mother-to-Mother Ministries, helped form the Reno County Child Care Association, and volunteered for Hutchinson Community Ministry, Hospice of Reno County and Meals on Wheels.

On Aug. 28, 1938, she married Kenneth L. Baumer at Natoma. He died Feb. 14, 1999.

Survivors include: a daughter, Ann Baumer Pyle, Luray; a brother, Robert Paul Chesney, Woodston; three grandchildren, Dana Sue Farrar, Jennifer Ann Nicholson and David Lord Scott Nicholson; and four great-grandchildren, Rachel Lee and David Wayne Nicholson, and Summer Danielle and Susannah Jean Farrar; two sisters-in-law, Marjorie J. Baumer and Beverly Baumer, both of Hutchinson.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Warren Kent and Homer Bruce Chesney.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Mark Conard and the Rev. Robert B. Brooks presiding. Graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Survey Cemetery, rural Woodston. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
