Obituary

Evelyn M. Canfield, 85, of Hutchinson, died July 15, 2008, at Hospice House.

She was born Oct. 21, 1922, in Vanderburg County, Ind., the daughter of Arthur and Beryl Hill Huebner. She graduated from Kipp High School, Kipp, in 1939. She graduated from Salt City Business College in 1941. She also attended College of Emporia one year.

She worked as a bookkeeper/secretary for Barton Salt Company for 17 years and also worked at McCandless in the lunchroom. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader, Boy Scout den mother, active in McCandless School PTA, serving as president for two years. She also served on City Council PTA. She was a Sunday School teacher, active in her church, and was an ordained Deacon.

She was church secretary at Forest Park Presbyterian Church from 1974 until her retirement in 1999, where she was also a member.

On April 24, 1953, she married Ralph G. Canfield in the Irwin Memorial Presbyterian Church, Hutchinson. He died March 28, 1994.

Survivors include: daughter, Cheryl Lynn Canfield, Hutchinson; sister, Helen L. Davis, Salome, Ariz.; stepson, Francis S. Canfield, Leon; step-grandson raised in the home, William E. Canfield; one nephew; two nieces; five step-grandchildren; 14 step-great-grandchildren; and 17 step-great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, niece Candace Davis, and stepson William R. Canfield.

Funeral services will be at Forest Park Presbyterian Church, 700 E. 25th, Hutchinson on Friday, July 18, at 10 a.m., with burial in Fairlawn Cemetery, Hutchinson. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday with family present from 6 to 8 p.m., all at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.

Memorials may be made to the church, Hospice of Reno County, or American Diabetes Association, in care of the mortuary.
