Obituary

Evelyn N. Miller, 84, passed away peacefully on Feb. 17, 2014, at The Arbors at Waldron Place. She was born on Dec. 29, 1929, in Halstead. She was the youngest of 10 children to Elmer and Bernice (Moots) Hughes.

Evelyn graduated from Halstead High School in 1948.

On May 15, 1948, she married M. Gene Miller in Halstead. She was a homemaker, loving wife, wonderful mother and grandmother. Her kind heart and gentle spirit were evident to all who knew her and Evelyn's sense of humor kept the family laughing. When her youngest child started junior high, Evelyn began working for USD #308 in Hutchinson as a Paraprofessional for Mrs. Sandy Vieyra. She enjoyed working with Mrs. Vieyra and the children. She retired in 1988. Evelyn was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She donated her time to Hutchinson Friends of the Library Bookstore and Methodist churches fair price clothing store. Evelyn was a breast cancer survivor and volunteered time to help other breast cancer patients.

She is survived by her husband, Gene and their cat, Kitty; son, Max Miller and wife Beth of Hutchinson; daughters, Nancy Johnson of Hutchinson, Loretta Blickenstaff and husband Joel and Brenda Miller of Scottsdale, Ariz.; grandchildren, Kara Johnson, Levi Short and wife Shannon, Joey Short and Radimir Blickenstaff; four great-grandchildren and a great-grand dog, Buddy. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Woodrow, Herman, Melvin Hughes; sisters, Edna Fleetwood, Loreva Berger, Eileen Zimmerman, Ruth Jamieson, Dorothy VanTuyl, and Fae Adolf.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Reverend Jim Rhaesa officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary.
