Obituary

Evelyn C. Openshaw, 88, died March 31, 2015, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. She was born July 17, 1926, in Kinsley, to William and Ida (Eatinger) Miller.

After high school, she attended technical school to become a medical secretary. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and P.E.O. Ch. D. Evelyn was a very accomplished folk artist, a master level bridge player, enjoyed painting, and loved Christmas.

On March 1, 1944, she married Arthur D. Chamberlain in Hutchinson. He died Sept. 20, 1969. She then married Dr. Calvin R. Openshaw on Dec. 19, 1973, in Hutchinson. He died Feb. 14, 1991.

Evelyn is survived by: children, Ronna Chamberlain of Overland Park, Gae McKay and husband Sandy of Hutchinson, Christine Peterson and husband Rod of Boulder, Colo.; grandchildren, Chandler Thayer (Tim), Angie Eckenroth (Brad), Katie McKay (Albert), Josh Peterson (Stephanie), Sarah Bobo (Craig), Annie McKay, Natalie Carpentier (Rick); sister, Chris Zongker and husband Jo of Derby; sister-in-law, Margie Miller Dick of Hutchinson; 10 great-grandchildren and a great great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by: her parents; brothers, Marvin Miller, Adrian "Whitey" Miller; sister, Norma Euker; and son, David W. Chamberlain.

Graveside Service will be 1 p.m. Monday, April 6, 2015, at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson. Memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson, with Reverend Dr. Kim Biery officiating. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
