Evelyn Mae Summers, 91, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 2010, at Dillon Living Center. She was born April 30, 1919, in La Cygne, Kan., to Charles Edwin and Ruby Eileen FitzSimmons Evey.
She was a 1936 graduate of La Cygne High School and then took post graduate classes in Anthony, Kan. She married Guy Leroy Summers, Jr. on July 3, 1941, in Wellington, Kan. He survives. She and Leroy moved to Hutchinson in 1955. Primarily a homemaker, she had been employed ten years by Southwestern Bell Telephone and Illinois Bell Telephone and worked several years as a clerk for the FFA during the Kansas State Fair. She served as a volunteer for the Hutchinson Public Library Talking Books Program and also served on the local Election Board for many years.
Other survivors include: daughters, Marla Wilcox and husband LaVon of Little River, Kan., and Sharla Cooper and husband Kem of Topeka, Kan.; sister, Florence McAlexander and husband Kent of Monett, Mo.; grandchildren, Andrea Willard and husband David of Wilmore, Kan., Andrew Wilcox and wife Molly of BelAire, Kan., Kaela Wegeng and husband Stephen of Wichita, Kan., and Keesha Cooper of Wichita, Kan. She was preceded in death by her parents, infant sister, Hazel Fern Evey, sister, Wilma Faye Timmons and brother, Edgar Edwin Evey.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2010, at Elliott Mortuary with Pastor Theresa Forshee presiding. Friends may sign the book 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. to service time Wednesday.
