Evelyn Irene Zimmer, 94, died peacefully, August 6, 2026, at her home in Hutchinson. She was born February 14, 1932, in Larned, KS, to Harry Eugene and Viola Maud (Davis) Tomlinson.

Evelyn graduated from Garfield High School, Garfield, KS, in 1950, and also attended Kansas University in Lawrence, KS, and Sterling College in Sterling, KS.

Evelyn was a gifted vocalist, oboist, and pianist whose love of music was evident throughout her life. For several years, she was a proud member of the Hutchinson Symphony Orchestra, where she shared her talent and passion for music with the community.

On September 23, 1957, she married Robert Dean Zimmer in Garfield, KS. They shared over 43 years of marriage, prior to his death on May 4th, 2001.

Evelyn is survived by: her daughters, Elizabeth Gilson of Hutchinson and Nancy (Bruce) Shrouf of Wichita; grandchildren, Jamil McClelland, Anika Biesler, and Lynn (Krystal) Linebarger; and sister, Virginia Johnson.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Robert; daughter, Joan Ruth Zimmer; and granddaughter, Alicia Gray.

To honor Evelyn’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no services are planned. A private family inurnment will take place at a later date.
