Fayne Lee Ritterhouse, 90, died Oct. 25, 2015, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born June 21, 1925, in Sterling, to Lester A. and Reba (Lockard) Ritterhouse. Fayne graduated from Sterling High School in 1943 and from Kansas State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Business in 1950.
He served in the United States Army during World War II, where he was wounded in Okinawa and received a Purple Heart. In Fayne's younger years, he was an Eagle Scout. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, DUO Sunday school class and served on various boards at the church. Fayne was also a member of National Campers and Hikers Association, Good Sams Camping Club, and a 50-year member of the Lions Breakfast Club. He also volunteered at Reins of Hope.
On May 17, 1946, Fayne married Betty Tener on horseback at First and Main, Hutchinson, as part of the Diamond Jubilee. She survives.
Other survivors include: children, Becky Ritterhouse and husband Truman Barnes of Hampstead, Md., Kathy Ritterhouse of Grand Prairie, Texas, Terry Christner and husband Rex of Hutchinson, and Lee Ritterhouse of Derby; grandsons, Nathan Christner of Wichita, Ryan Christner, Dylan Christner, both of Hutchinson, Chris Ritterhouse of Derby and Sean Ritterhouse of Wichita; and five great-grandchildren.
Fayne was preceded in death by his parents.
Cremation has taken place. The family would like to encourage everyone to wear red to his memorial service.
Memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, 2015, at Trinity United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Kim Biery officiating. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and Wednesday, with family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson Public Library, or Reins of Hope, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson KS 67501.
