SOUTH HUTCHINSON - Flossie H. McMillen, 95, died May 17, 2007, at Mennonite Manor, South Hutchinson.
She was born Nov. 28, 1911, on the family farm in rural Colfax, Wash., the daughter of Samuel R. and Ida E. Sommers Aeschliman. She graduated from Colfax High School in 1930 and received her nursing diploma from St. Luke's School of Nursing, Spokane, Wash. A resident of Hutchinson since 1947, moving to South Hutchinson in 1997, she was a registered nurse, having worked in a doctor's office in Spokane, Wash., and was a Red Cross nurse.
She belonged to the First Mennonite Church and formerly the Faculty Dames of Hutchinson Community College. She served in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps during World War II as a first lieutenant.
On Jan. 1, 1946, she married Hugh Otis McMillen in rural Colfax, Wash. He died Dec. 9, 2002.
Survivors include: a son, Kenneth and wife, Carolyn, Sonoma, Calif.; a daughter, Jeanne Burdsal and husband, Charles, Wichita; a brother, Ralph Aeschliman, Moscow, Idaho; a sister, Francis Aeschliman, Colfax, Wash.; a grandchild; two step-grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Irvin, Arnold and Walter Aeschliman; and six sisters, Golda Walter, Hilda Goering, Stella Aeschliman, Julia Aeschliman, Blanche Schrag and Myrtle Johnson.
Funeral will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Mennonite Manor Chapel, South Hutchinson, with Pastor Debbie Schmidt presiding. Graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Topeka, with Pastor Terry Frizzell presiding. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard. Friends may sign the register from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary.
