Frank B. Evans, 87, died Aug. 17, 2016, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born July 2, 1929, in Dodge City, to Cress B. and Ruth (Cham-berlain) Evans.
He married Karan Lee Drolte on May 28, 1950, in Dodge City. He and his family lived in Taos and Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he graduated from high school in 1947. He then came to Dodge City and graduated from Dodge City Community College in 1950, with an associate's degree. He received his bachelor's degree from Northern Colorado University in Greeley, Colorado, in 1952. He later received his master's degree from Fort Hays State University in 1963. Frank served in the Dodge City public schools for 39 years, from 1952 to 1991.
He taught at Lincoln School for one year, Dodge City Junior High School for nine years, served as assistant principal at DCJH for four years, then 13 years as DCJH principal. He later taught math at the Dodge City Senior High School for 12 years.
Frank was a member, or past member of: KNEA; Dodge City National Education Association; Kansas Association of Secondary Principals; National Association of Secondary Principals; chairman of the Kansas Junior High School Principals for two years; a member of the founding group for Kansas Association of Middle Level Educators (KAMLE); served on the Advisory Committee for the National Association of Middle Schools; PALS, Inc.; United Way Advisory Board; Ford County Historical Society; AARP; life member of the PTA and the Fort Hays Alumni Association. He was an active member of the Presbyterian Church of Dodge City and served on the board of deacons and elders. Frank received the Kansas Master Teacher Award in 1986. He was inducted into the Dodge City Community College Hall of Fame in 2010 and into the Kansas Teacher's Hall of Fame in 2013.
He is survived by: his wife, Karan of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Mary Evans, Hutchinson; two grandsons, Vince Evans (Shonda), Wichita, and Vaughn Evans (Aly), Linwood; two great-grandchildren, Chloe Callan and Leilana Evans; brother, Bob Evans, San Antonio, Texas; and sister, Judy Fink, Lompoc, Calif. Frank was preceded in death by: his parents; brother, Billy; and sister, Alwilda Evans.
Cremation has taken place. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials are suggested to First Presbyterian Church of Dodge City or Ford County Humane Society, in care of Elliott Mortuary and Crematory, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
