Obituary

Franklin Dale "Frank" Kirk, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away at midnight Aug. 17, 2011, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Frank was surrounded by his family at the time of his passing.

Frank was born on Aug. 11, 1930, to Nels Christensen Kirk and Helen Escher Kirk in Harlan, Iowa.

He graduated from Harlan High School in 1948. He was a member of Crestview Bible Church and the American Legion Lysle Rishel Post #68. He was a resident of Reno County since 1963. Frank was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict remaining in the Army Reserves till 1957. Upon returning from the service and graduating from Omaha Trade School, he worked at Eckert Electronics in Stockton, Kan. In 1963, he moved to Hutchinson and was employed with Decker and Mattison, and later Stevens Heating and Cooling. In 1972, he started his own business, Kirk Heating and Cooling, serving the community for 20 years. His hobbies included: woodworking, fishing and volunteering with the American Legion.

Frank married Karrol Kay Turnbull in Stockton, Kan. They had three children, Betty Bachman (Bruce) of Hutchinson, Kan., Patti (Bill) Watts of Hutchinson, Kan., and Michael Kirk (Greta) of Waterloo, Ill. He is survived by seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Donna (Jerry) Brockett of Kingston, Okla., and Marilyn (Keith) Andersen of Harlan, Iowa; brother, Roger (Mary) Kirk of Alvin, Texas; sisters-in-law, Marguerite (Verle) Hulse of Minden, La., Patricia (Don) Toelkes of Minden, La., Linda (Don) Nornandin of Damar, Kan.; brothers-in-law, Jack (Nola) Turnbull of Plainville, Kan., Jim (Judy) of Hoisington, Kan., Richard (Judie) Turnbull of Salina, Kan., and Ronald (Judy) of Woodston, Kan.; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Frank will be missed and forever cherished by his family and friends. Frank was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Patti.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19, 2011, with family present to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Funeral will be at Crestview Bible Church, 2401 N. Halstead, Hutchinson, at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011, with Pastors Phil Auxier and Quintin Moore presiding. Final resting place is at Mount Vernon Cemetery, rural Stockton, Kan., 1:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 22, 2011.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Children's Bereavement Camp Healing Hearts at Hospice Care of Kansas, in care of the mortuary.
