Fred Charles Cannon, 72, died April 17, 2019, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born July 22, 1946, in Waltham, MA, the son of Carl and Thursa (Fox) Cannon. Fred graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1964 and Cowley County Community College in 1988. He was a Vietnam veteran, serving in the United States Navy from 1963-1966. Fred was a golf course superintendent for 32 years, working at Carey Park Golf Course, Hutchinson, Arkansas City, Kingman, and Liberal Country Clubs. He was an avid golfer, with a passion for instructing. Fred enjoyed creating custom golf clubs, small engine repair, and woodworking. He was a member of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America and American Legion Post #128, Sterling. Fred was a man of faith and was a member of multiple Nazarene churches.
On August 10, 1968, he married Myrna Stucky in Hutchinson. They shared 50 years of marriage. She survives.
Also surviving are: daughter, Ellen Corkill (Dave), Hutchinson; sons, Senior Master Sergeant Matthew Cannon (Suzy), Fairfield, CA, John Cannon (Anna), Lyons; grandchildren, Jacob Rothe, Sarah Rothe (fiancé, Cody McReynolds), Tyler, Allison, Ruby, Jack, Pearl, and Max Cannon; great-granddaughter, Paislee McReynolds; brothers, Ted (Nancy), Dennis, Chris, Lafie, all of Hutchinson; sister, Linda King (Art), Haysville; sister-in-law, Sharon Cannon, Mora, MO; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Steven.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, April 25, 2019, at Eastwood Church of Christ, 2500 N. Plum, Hutchinson, with military honors conducted by the United States Navy Honor Guard. Inurnment will follow in Sego Cemetery at a later date. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday thru Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary. Memorials are suggested to Fred Cannon Memorial Fund at Eastwood Church of Christ, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
