Obituary

Freda A. Young, 82, passed away September 3, 2016, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born December 5, 1933, at Munjor, Kansas, to Aegidius and Clara (Gross) Pfannenstiel.

The Pfannenstiel family moved to Hutchinson in 1942. In 1951, Freda graduated from St. Teresa's High School and married Jerry Mueller. In 1964, she married Philip Young.

For many years, Freda worked in banking in Independence and Blue Springs, MO, retiring in 1998 as a branch manager. She returned to Hutchinson with Philip in 2002. Freda was famous in the family for her completely hand-stitched quilts, her made-from-scratch noodles (for chicken and noodles), and her "kartoffel and kloss" (potatoes & dumplings).

Freda is survived by: her husband, Philip; sisters, Mary Westgate (Ralph), Juanita Ketchum (Leroy), all of Hutchinson, and Velma Seitz (Nick) of Kennebunk Port, ME; daughter, Christine Robinson (Brad) of Grain Valley, MO, twin daughters, Cindy LoPorto (Chuck) of Blue Springs, MO, and Sandy Johann of Independence, MO; grandchildren, Carrie Turner (Mark Nicholas) of Lee's Summit, MO, Sal LoPorto (Gina) of Riverside, MO, Mike LoPorto (Kim) of Emporia, Christopher LoPorto of Kansas City, MO, Ashley Johann of Independence, MO, Stephen Johann (Shelby) of Independence, MO; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Darlene Melland and Delores Craithorne.

Parish rosary will be 10 a.m. Friday, September 9, 2016, with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:30 a.m. at Church of the Holy Cross, 2631 Independence Rd., Hutchinson, both led by Father Roger S. Lumbre. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Hutchinson. Her casket will remain closed. Friends may sign her book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Elliott Mortuary.
