Gary J. Banz, 83, died March 11, 2023, in Hutchinson. Gary was born August 11, 1939, in Hutchinson, to Gerald G. & Mary Margaret (Ryan) Banz, who precede him in death.
He was a 1957 graduate of Haven High School, attended Hutchinson Junior College and then served two years in the United States Naval Reserve. He married Linda L. Niedens, February 4, 1973, in Hutchinson. Gary was a retired furniture manufacturer representative, a member of First Presbyterian Church and enjoyed model railroading. He was a member of the International Home Furnishings Rep. Association, Kansas City Home Furnishings Rep. Association, Santa Fe Railway Historical and Modeling Society, American Legion Lyle RIshel Post 68 and the Central States Numismatic Society. Gary was known to "chase" trains all over within the state of Kansas and was a die hard Kansas State University fan.
He is survived by: his wife, Linda; son, Brad and his wife Angie Banz; grandchildren, Kyle and his wife Savanna Banz and Melissa and her husband Vernon Meyer; five great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters in-law, Lonnie and Kathy Niedens and Loetta and Sonny Walker; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Phillip and an infant sister, Mary Margaret.
Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 16, 2023, at First Presbyterian Church, 201 E. Sherman, with Reverends Christine Kass and Keith Neill officiating. Burial will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the US Navy Honor Guard. Friends may call Wednesday 9am to 8pm at Elliott Mortuary. The family will receive friends from noon to 1:00 p.m. Thursday, in the church parlor.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to HCC Endowment Association, First Presbyterian Church, or Hospice of Reno County, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, 67501.
