Gary D. Hook, 77, of Hutchinson, died May 20, 2026, at Lindsborg Community Hospital. He was born March 28, 1949, in Stafford, Kansas, to Ruben and Frances “Fern” (Bowers) Hook.

Gary worked as a Correctional Officer for Hutchinson Correctional Facility for over 24 years. Also, he enjoyed being a farmer and tending to his crops and cows. No matter how often he would go to the same place, Gary would take a different route.

He enjoyed old western movies, trains, and his subscriptions to four-wheel drive magazines. Gary enjoyed tinkering in his shop and once bought a disassembled Bronco and put it back together.

On March 1, 2004, Gary married Debra McConaghy, in Pratt, Kansas. They shared 22 years together.

Gary is survived by: wife, Debra McConaghy of the home; daughter, Tami Haflich (Jay Kaufman) of Hutchinson; step-children, Jeremy (Samantha) McConaghy of Hutchinson and Lisa (Ricky) Schroeder of Inman; sister, Sharon (Dale) Evans; grandchildren, Justin (Anna), Kristin (Bailey), Korie, Madison, Kimberly, Jon; three great-grandchildren and one due in August; and mother of Tami, Joleen Hook-Mascorro.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruben Hook and Frances “Fern” Fulks.

Private family inurnment will take place at a later date.

Cremation has taken place.

In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Hutchinson Friends of the Zoo, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main Hutchinson, KS 67501.
