Obituary

FRISCO, Texas – Dr. Gary L. Milburn, 62, passed away unexpectedly Sept. 10, 2014, in Frisco, Texas. He was born July 28, 1952, in Hutchinson to Harold J. and Verna E. (Gorges) Milburn. Gary graduated from Buhler High School, received his Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology from the University of Kansas and began his Post-Doctorate work at Washington University Medical School and completed it at the University of Iowa.

A more analytical mind the world has seldom known. As winner of many a science fair, his intellectual insights took him around the world. By age 17, he competed on an international level. Eventually his work led him to hold as first author of three U.S. Patents.

Dr. Milburn was co-founder of MEDLAB and served as Chief Operating Officer. Most recently as Chief Scientific Officer, he helped True Health Diagnostics prepare to debut in October, 2014. He has also worked for Syva Company of Palo Alto, Calif.; Pel-Freeze of Rogers, Ark.; Medical Reference Labs of Cypress, Calif.; and Quest Diagnostics as a National Director of Genomics and Esoteric Testing.

Sought after as a plenary speaker, Dr. Milburn participated in numerous national and international "think tanks". He was widely recognized for his visionary thinking.

Gary served on the Rogers Arkansas Library Board 14 years in numerous capacities including President. He was a member of First Christian Church.

When not involved in his work, he was an avid sailor, a consummate photographer and a loving father. He will be sorely missed.

Gary is survived by children, Dr. Matthew Gary Milburn of Kansas City, Mo., Melinda LeeAnn "Lindy" Milburn of Bartlesville, Okla.; parents, Harold and Verna Milburn of Hutchinson; brother, Michael Wayne Milburn and wife Laura of Scottsdale, Ariz.; nephews, Christopher L. Milburn and Garrett Kuehn-Milburn; niece, Dr. Jessica Milburn Villalobos and husband Samuel; companion, Valda Scoufos of Oklahoma; and was formerly married to Marty Green Milburn of Rogers, Ark.

Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2014, at Elliott Chapel, with the Rev. R. Samuel Askew and the Rev. Alisha Lasater-Wailoo officiating. Burial will follow in Penwell Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday.
