Gary Wayne Nelson, 83, died October 17, 2023, at his home in Hutchinson.  He was born October 5, 1940, in Webster, KS, to Perry J. and Louise E. (Wallgreen) Bray, Jr.

Gary worked on the line for General Motors.  After retirement, he stayed busy with part-time jobs, including Ineeda Cleaners and Roberts Hutch-Line.  Gary enjoyed playing bingo, the Lottery, and golfing.  In addition, he made his own greeting cards, wrote children's books, and was currently working on a novel.  Above all, Gary was a devoted father and grandfather.  He fostered an unconditional love for his daughters and grandchildren, overcoming the heartaches of his own childhood.

Gary is survived by:  daughters, Rebecca Caramagno (Brett) of Summerville, SC, Sandra Benko (Karl) of Knoxville, TN, and Amy Johnston (Joshua) of Elgin, SC; grandchildren, Misty Powers (Jake), Matthew Gross, Emily Rajaee (Mason), Eric Benko, Kennedi Benko, Courtney Ward (Robert), and Trevor Johnston; and three great-grandchildren; Timothy Powers, Penelope Powers, and Parker Ward.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, and sisters.

Per Gary's wishes, there will be no service.  Cremation has taken place.
