Gary Charles Wheeler, 73, passed away Friday, July 5, 2019, in Wichita, after a 43-day hospitalized battle with health-related complications. He was born May 23, 1946, in Quinter, to David and Nettie (Ringer) Wheeler, their first and only child. Raised in Hutchinson, Gary's first job was as a grocery bagger at Dillon's on 4 th Avenue, an experience he often recalled fondly. He graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1964 and from McPherson College, where he earned his bachelor's degree in business. Gary served our country in the Kansas National Guard and was stationed in Fort Polk, LA. Professionally, he served as a purchasing agent, manager, and director, including work at Collins Industries, South Hutchinson, and later T.A. Pelsue and Cryenco in Denver, CO.
Gary is survived by his son, Matthew and wife Katie, and grandchildren, Elizabeth and Michael, all of Roseville, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Cremation has taken place and a private family inurnment will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the Kansas Army National Guard. Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 17, 2019, at Elliott Chapel. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at Elliott Chapel.
