Gene Leon Allton, 71, of Hutchinson, died Sunday, February 11, 2018. He was born June 13, 1946, in Wellington, the son of Walter Leon and Betty Jean (Heiser) Allton.
Gene graduated from Lyons High School in 1964, Hutchinson Community College in 1966, and Pittsburg State University in 1969. Gene was a member of Park Place Christian Church, Association of Physical Plant Administrators, American Legion Lysle Rishel Post #68, and was a United States Navy veteran. He was part of the graphic team for the NJCAA basketball tournament.
Gene was an industrial engineer for Farmland Industries for 10 years, and retired from Hutchinson Community College in 2010 as Director of Plant Facilities after 23 years of service.
On September 6, 1969, he married Carol L. Pratt in Tulsa, Oklahoma. They shared 48 years of marriage. She survives.
Also surviving are: children, Stephanie Kavlick and husband Christopher of Stilwell, Steven and wife Carrie of Lawrence; sister, Janet Gresnick and husband Joe of Wichita; brother, Thad and wife Penny of Topeka; grandchildren, Thaine, and Clayton Kavlick, Lucy, and Ruby Allton; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday, February 19, 2018, at Park Place Christian Church, 2600 N. Adams, with Pastor David Dubovich presiding. Military honors will be conducted by the United States Navy Honor Guard. Friends may sign his memorial book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today through Sunday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to HCC Endowment Association or the church, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
