Gene H. Hulen, 82, died April 24, 2010, at Golden Plains Health Care Center, Hutchinson.
He was born Oct. 14, 1927, in Easton, Pa., to Harry and Barbara Oster Hulen.
He was a 1943 graduate of Easton High School, Easton, Pa. Before he was rendered blind from genetic degeneration, Gene had spent many years working as a truck driver for numerous businesses, as well as spending nearly 20 years with the Reno County Landfill before retiring. He was a Christian. He was member of Union Labor Temple, volunteered at the Hutchinson Public Library and devoted care to his Seeing Eye dogs.
He married Ruby Anita Finch. She died Aug. 14, 2005. He married Linda P. Bruton on Sept. 6, 1986, in Canada.
Survivors include: sons, Eric Hulen, Haven, and Larry Ford, Colorado; a brother, Norman Hulen and wife Pat, Salemsburg, N.C.; a sister, Norma Heinz, Greeley, Colo.; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Haas.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 29, 2010, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson, with Chaplain Bob Phipps officiating. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, with the family receiving friends. from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary. Cremation to follow the service.
