Obituary

George M. Adrian, 87, passed away over to his heavenly home on April 11, 2009, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born Oct. 25, 1921, in Ewing, Neb., the son of Sidney E. and Laura E. Dierks Adrian.

On Sept. 28, 1940, he married Opal Sisson, and they were married more than 50 years when she passed away.

He was employed in engineering at Northrop Aircraft, Calif., before serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After that time, he was employed by Boeing Aircraft, Wichita, for 30 years before retiring in 1981 to his fish farm in Augusta.

George was a member of the Hutchinson-Reno Masonic Lodge #124 A.F. & A.M., where he received his 50-year pin, American Legion Lysle Rishel Post #68, Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, charter member and past president of the Kansas Aquaculture Association, formerly known as Kansas Fish Grower's Association. After his retirement, he earned his pilot's license, owned a Cessna Skyhawk and built an experimental aircraft that he spent many hours flying. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish, hunt and farm.

On Feb. 19, 1994, he married Jean Redinger in Wichita. She survives. Other survivors include: son, Marvin Adrian, Wichita; two daughters, Brenda Gilbert and husband Bob, Hutchinson, and Colleen Hajek and husband Mark, Marion; stepchildren, Dennis "Red" Redinger, Wichita, and Bruce Redinger, Las Vegas; two sisters, Elaine Lebsack, Overland Park, and Kay Roland, Wichita; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Jean Cantrell and Myra Lee Cribbs; and a stepdaughter, Kathy Jarrett.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Tuesday at Emanuel Lutheran Church, Hutchinson, with Pastor Phil Vickers presiding. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Family will receive friends 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at the mortuary. Cremation is planned following the service. Inurnment will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at White Chapel Cemetery, Wichita.

Memorials may be sent to Hospice House or the church, both in care of the mortuary.
