George Allen Cortner, 86, died Sept. 11, 2015, at his home in Hutchinson. He was born Jan. 27, 1929, in Pond Creek, Okla., to George Allen and Carol Maud (Hatfield) Cortner. He joined the United States Army in 1944, and was a Tech Sergeant in the 82nd Airborne Division, also serving in World War II. He was a diesel mechanic for Groendyke Transport for 50 years.
On Oct. 28, 1977, he married Judy P. Heaney in Hutchinson. She survives. Other survivors include: son, Gary Pulliam and wife Grace; daughter, Kathy Winger and husband Richard; daughter-in-law, Sebrena Pulliam, all of Hutchinson; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bill Cortner, Edgewood, Md., and Tommy Cortner, Brooksville, Ky. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Frankie Edward "Joe" Pulliam; and a sister, Nyla Henson.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, 2015, at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor Montie McFerrin presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, with the family to receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., at Elliott Mortuary.
