George Wayne Friesen, 80, died July 16, 2022, at Hospice House. He was born August 6, 1941, in Hutchinson, to George F. and Amy E. (Martin) Friesen.

George graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1959, Hutchinson Community College in 1961, and attended the University of Kansas. He worked for the Hutchinson News for 33 years as a composer and retired as evening foreman. George loved his job, woodworking, and KU basketball.

On October 4, 1968, he married Beverly Darlene Birka, in Lyons. They shared 50 years of marriage before her death on January 19, 2019.

George is survived by: his children, Sheri Friesen Barr of Hutchinson, Susan Friesen Sloyer and husband Scott of Lawrence, George R. Friesen and wife Misty of Wellington; sister, Connie Neuburger and husband Arthur of Lawrence; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Joetta Mielke.

Cremation has taken place and a family celebration of his life is planned for a future date. Friends may leave condolences in his obituary on the funeral home website.
