George Edward Kumorowski, 84, died Oct. 30, 2005, at Hutchinson Hospital.
He was born Oct. 25, 1921, in Nickerson, the son of John F. and Louie Iona Henderson Kumorowski. He graduated from Washburn, Mo., High School, Hutchinson Junior College in 1948, attended Kansas State University and graduated from the Coyne Electrical School in Chicago. A longtime Hutchinson resident, he retired from Kansas Power and Light after 45 years and was the co-owner of the former Toy Chest for 34 years.
He attended First Christian Church, was a 50-year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 661, Hutchinson, and was past president of the North Reno P.T.A., where he was instrumental in the construction of the new North Reno School. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.
On May 4, 1941, he married Freda J. Lawrence in Crane, Mo. She died Dec. 31, 1995.
Survivors include: a son, Edward M. Kumorowski, Hutchinson; a daughter, Phyllis K. Grant, Hixson, Tenn.; a brother, Joseph James Kumorowski, Abbyville; two sisters, Tillie Erma Paetz, Baraboo, Wis., and Ada Marie Makula, Franklin Park, Ill.; and six grandchildren, James L. Grant III, Hixson, Tenn., Chase McKay-Kumorowski, Manhattan, Tyson McKay-Kumorowski, Hiram, Ohio, Brent McKay-Kumorowski, Topeka, Amy Nicole Temple, Meridian, Miss., and Tiffany Sherrell Grant, Hixson, Tenn.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Nadine Ditusa.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Christian Church, Hutchinson, with the Revs. John Warring and Victoria McKay-Kumorowski presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, both at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with Military Graveside Honors conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.
