Obituary

George C. Madelen Jr., 88, died Jan. 15, 2014, at Hospice House in Hutchinson. He was born May 6, 1925, in Midvale, Ohio, to Dorothy and George C. Madelen Sr.

He graduated from Colorado University, where he played football. He received his Masters Degree from Kansas State University. He served in the United States Marine Corp until his honorable discharge in June 1946. On June 24, 1951, he married Myrna M. Strom in Omaha. She died April 3, 1991. He was part of the Shriner's in Goodland and Abilene. A resident of Hutchinson since 1967, coming from Abilene, he was a retired school administrator. He was a member of the Hutchinson Rotary Club and Hutchinson Chamber of Commerce. Survivors include: son, George Michael Madelen and wife Diana of Overland Park; two daughters, Debbe Jantz and husband Gary of Newton, Carlye Fast and husband Greg of Hutchinson; ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at Grace Episcopal Church, Hutchinson, with Reverend Andrew Hook officiating. Inurnment will be in the church columbarium. Military honors will be provided by the United States Marine Corp. Memorials may be made to Hospice and HomeCare of Reno County, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
