Obituary

George P. Maior, Sr., 72, of Hutchinson, died October 4, 2019, at Bethany Home, Lindsborg. He was born September 7, 1947, in Hendersonville, North Carolina, to George and Louise Maior.

George served in the United States Army for over 20 years. He initially entered the service on October 30, 1964, in Roanoke, VA. George was last stationed in Fort Riley, where he retired on April 30, 1985. He attended Union Valley Bible Church, Hutchinson.

On October 1, 1966, George married Rose Simmons in Roanoke, VA. They shared 53 years of marriage.

He is survived by: wife, Rose Maior of Hutchinson; sons, George (Brianne) Maior, Jr. of Chapman, and John (Kareen) Maior of Salina; daughter, Shelli (Kaile) Allen of Pratt; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

George was preceded in death by: his parents; sister, Jane; and a granddaughter.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday, October 11, 2019, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor Steve Hodgson officiating. Burial will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 15, 2019, at the Kansas Veteran's Cemetery, 5181 Wildcat Creek Road, Manhattan. Military Honors will be conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, and 9 a.m. to service time Friday, at Elliott Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Hospice and HomeCare of Reno County, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
