George Davenport Martin, Jr.'s Obituary
George Davenport Martin Jr., 83, died April 17, 2013, in Houston, Texas. He was born Feb. 6, 1930, in Hutchinson, Kan., the son of George Sr. and Edith (Bradley) Martin.
He graduated from Hutchinson High School and received his bachelor's from the University of Denver.
George served in the Army and was stationed at Ft. Riley.
On March 23, 1952, he married Frances R. Detter in Hutchinson. She survives. Other survivors include: a daughter, Ruth Preece of Houston, Texas; a son, Phil Martin and wife Maria of Jupiter, Fla.; four grandchildren, Nicole Carroll and husband Josh of Cypress, Texas, Brandon Preece of Houston, Texas, Erik Martin, Jenelle McNeil and husband Geoff all of Jupiter, Fla.; and two great-grandsons, Aiden and Jack Carroll.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 22, 2013, at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, with the Rev. Jim Rhaesa presiding.
Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association at alzheimers.org or to Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
