George J. Sanders, 48, died April 29, 2008, at Hutchinson Hospital. He was born March 19, 1960, in Orange County, Calif., the son of James Rogers and Betty Lee Moreno Sanders. He graduated from Beech Hill High School, Beech Hill, Tenn., and Hutchinson Community College, with an A.A. in secondary education, and attended McPherson College, McPherson. He was a Med Aide for Medical Staffing Network, Wichita.
He was a member of the American Indian Movement. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
On April 23, 1991, he married Laurie Kay Stevens in Hutchinson. She survives.
Other survivors include: four sons, Daniel Nachise Sanders and wife Kristi, Hendersonville, Tenn., Joshua Nakemah Sanders and wife Cortnie, Nashville, Tenn., Lucas Naktobe "Toby" Sanders, Nashville, Tenn., and Casey Stevens and wife Chelsey, Fort Riley; two daughters, Ashley Stevens, Hutchinson, and Tiani Sanders, of the home; his parents, James R. and Betty L. Sanders, Booneville, Ark.; two brothers, James R. Sanders, Jr., Booneville, Ark., and Nik Sanders, Burrton; three grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Andrea McGee.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor Melvin Parrott presiding. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum. Memorials may be sent to the George J. Sanders Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home.
