George Leon "Scotty" Scott, 88, died Oct. 4, 2007, at the Hospice House, Hutchinson.
He was born July 4, 1919, in Coffeyville, the son of Harry Chester and Lenora Mae Morris Scott. He graduated from Arkansas City High School in 1937, and attended Cowley County Community College. A resident of Hutchinson since 1954, he was owner operator of Countryside Golf from 1964 to 1984, was with Colonial Life Insurance Company from 1987 to 1997, and was a buyer and in sales for Colladay Hardware from 1950 to 1986, and Bryant Hardware, Arkansas City from 1939 to 1950.
He belonged to the First Baptist Church, the U.S.S. LST 494 Association, American Legion Lysle Rishel Post No. 68, and the Friends of the Hutchinson Public Library Board serving as treasurer. He volunteered at the Reno County Museum, delivered for Meals on Wheels, Friendshop at the Library, a docent at the Kansas Cosmosphere, 40 plus years at the NJCAA Basketball Tournament, and was an engineer of the Prairie Thunder Railroad at the Hutchinson Zoo. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
On Aug. 30, 1940, he married Anna Lee Stout, in Arkansas City. She died Oct. 22, 1980. On June 30, 1981, he married Barbara J. Herndon. She survives.
Other survivors include: his children, daughter, Suzie Fox and husband Charlie, Hutchinson, a daughter, Laura Zambo, El Dorado, and a son, Brian Hamilton and wife Alicia, Olathe; a brother, William D., Cordova, Tenn.; a sister-in-law, Dolores Scott, Fairfield Bay, Ark.; 13 grandchildren; and 24 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Larry, two brothers, Wayne and Alvin, a son-in-law, Tom Zambo, and a grandson, Paul.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Dusty Cowell presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday through Sunday at the mortuary. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Reno County or the Countryside Baptist Church, both in care of the funeral home.
