George E. "Toop" Gier, 65, passed away July 4, 2013, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born April 9, 1948, to Howard "Shorty" and Della Ramsey Gier in Valley Falls, Kan.
He was a paint and body shop mechanic for the Kansas Department of Transportation and was a member of the American Legion and Victorious Life Church. He married Patricia D. Hall on Oct. 25, 1969, in Bellflower, Calif. She survives. George was dedicated to his family and loved and adored his grandchildren. He loved college football and basketball, and loved to go hunting.
Other survivors include: a son, Raymond Gier and wife Amy of Fayetteville, Ga.; daughters, Dawn McVey and husband Lanny of Omaha, Neb., Brandi Hobbs and husband Shawn of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Brandon and Alisha McVey, Danielle and Jaxson Gier, Dalton and Zach Hobbs; his mother, Della Gier of Clay Center; brother, John Gier of Clay Center; sisters, Mary Kendricks and husband Dave of Lyons, Nancy Lee and husband Gene of Clay Center. He was preceded in death by his father, Howard "Shorty" Gier, and a grandson, Zayne McVey.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 8, 2013, at Victorious Life Church, 1200 E. 10th, with the Reverend James Francis and Pastor Luke Helmuth presiding. The family requests casual attire or your favorite sports team or KDOT orange. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday with the family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
