Georgia "Ann" Bedinghaus, 71, of Hutchinson, Kansas, passed away Friday, January 30, 2015, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born October 9, 1943, in Athens, TN, the daughter of Raymond and Georgia (Weld) Wilson, and was raised and adopted by Joe and Mable (Eaton) Walker. Ann graduated Anthony High School in 1961 and attended Southwestern College in Winfield, majoring in home economics. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and loved her kids and grandchildren "more than all the stars in the sky." Ann was a past chairman of the Reno County Cancer Crusade and past board member of the Cancer Society in Hutchinson. In 1974, she received the Distinguished Service Award for Outstanding Young Woman presented by the Hutchinson Jaycee Jaynes.
She joined Eta Omega chapter of Beta Sigma Phi in May 1967 in Halstead, KS. She transferred to Hutchinson in 1973, and became a charter member of Xi Delta Omicron. She progressed to Preceptor Omega in 1981, transferred to Laureate Rho in 1988, received her Laureate degree in 1991, and became a charter member of Alpha Gamma Master in March 2002.
Her favorite indulgences were sleeping an extra hour on weekends and eating chips and dip with an ice cold cola. In her spare time she enjoyed hand quilting, collecting Santas, heart objects, pink depression glass and fairy lamps.
Ann is survived by: her son, Kale Bedinghaus and wife Beth of Pueblo, Colo.; daughter-in-law, Aide Bedinghaus of D'Hanis, Texas; grandson, Edward Paul Bedinghaus of Houston, Texas; granddaughters Jacqueline Bedinghaus of San Marcos, Texas, Keri Ann Bedinghaus of D'Hanis, Texas; sister, Sandra Smith of Mulvane, KS; brothers, Gerald Lee Walker and wife Sue of Rio Vista, Calif., John Walker and wife Rose of Anthony, KS, Dennis Grimes and wife Linda of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and many, many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends whom she cherished and loved dearly. She is preceded in death by her parents, her son, Kreg Bedinghaus; sisters, Pamela Wilson, Betty Fisher and Sue Kott; and brother Linton Wilson.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 7, 2015, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Amy Claassen officiating. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. in Forest Park Cemetery in Anthony. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday, with family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Memorials may be made to Methodist Children's Hospital of South Texas at 7700 Floyd Carl Drive, San Antonio, Texas, 78229, in care of Child Life Services, which will be used to provide video games, art supplies, gift cards and toys to children battling cancer.
