Georgia Burns Houghton, 85, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother died June 3, 2016, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born Nov. 2, 1930, in northwest Missouri, to Wiley and Marjorie (Duffy) Burns.
Georgia grew up in northwest Missouri, attending Stony Point and Gallatin High School. She graduated from Chillicothe Business College in 1950. Georgia was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing, quilting, golfing, and traveling. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, serving as a deacon.
On Oct. 6, 1950, she married Howard Houghton in Kansas City, Mo. They shared 65 and a half years of marriage. He survives. Other survivors include: children, Carol Bowers of Kansas City, Mo., Janet Cleveland Dunne and husband Tom of Vancouver, Wash., Dan Houghton and wife Shelly of St. Louis Park, Minn.; grandchildren, Grant Cleveland of Seattle, Wash., Ben Cleveland of Vancouver, Wash., Anna Cleveland of Laramie, Wyo., Caroline Houghton of Minneapolis, Minn., Laura Espinosa and husband Mauricio of Santa Cruz, Bolivia, Charlie Houghton, of Minneapolis, Minn.; great-granddaughter, Rebeca Lopez; sister, Marian Thudium of Liberty, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by: her parents; son, David Lee Houghton; and brothers, George, Gerald, and Wilbur Burns.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 20, 2016, at First Presbyterian Church, 201 E. Sherman, Hutchinson, with Reverend Mark H. Miller officiating. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. The family will greet friends following the service at the church.
