Obituary

Gerald E. 'Gary' Ford, 78, of Hutchinson, died Thursday, October 19, 2017, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born August 15, 1939, in Salina, to Charles 'Harold' and Mildred (Yockers) Ford.

After high school, Gary served in the United States Marines from 1958-1961. He then worked for many years in the computer industry, selling for Burroughs Corporation and NCR. In later years, Gary learned the paint business, which was closely aligned with his love for woodworking and home improvement. He also served as the sexton at the Grace Episcopal Church. Gary was an extremely talented woodworker and a true craftsman. He enjoyed his woodworking shop and being a woodcarver. Many of his friends were the recipients of his outstanding woodworking talents. Recently, he began mentoring young woodcarvers. Gary's passion for woodworking can be seen by his many household projects he has done in the 20 years since he and Gayle moved back to Hutchinson.

On May 7, 1965, he married Gayle Hagen in Pueblo, Colorado. They shared 52 years of marriage.

Gary is survived by: wife, Gayle of Hutchinson; sister, Sheri Ludlow of Wichita; nieces, Aura Roseberry (Michael Wettstaed) of Wichita, Stephanie Ford of Colorado Springs, Colorado; nephew, Aaron Ford of Colorado Springs, Colorado; sister-in-law, Kris DeCastro (Rick) of Phoenix, Arizona; niece, Erin Coopey (John) of Phoenix, Arizona; and a host of friends.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 3 p.m. Friday, October 27, 2017, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with The Right Reverend Michael P. Milliken officiating. Friends may sign the book from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at Elliott Mortuary.

Memorials may be made to Salthawk Community Support, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
