Geraldine Madge "Jerry" Samms, 98, of Sylvia, died May 9, 2022, at Good Samaritan Society – Hutchinson Village. She was born November 30, 1923, in Sylvia, to Jerome J. and Marie M. (Josephson) Book.

Jerry graduated from Sylvia High School in 1941. She was a co-owner of E & J Grocery Store in Sylvia for many years and was also the Postmaster of the Sylvia Post Office for many years before she retired. Jerry was an avid KU Jayhawks fan, but also cheered for K-State, the Royals, and the Chiefs. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening and working crossword puzzles.  Jerry was of the Methodist faith.

She married Edwin C. Samms. He died July 22, 1960.

Jerry is survived by: her son, Jeffrey Samms of Sylvia; grandchildren, Jennifer Adkins of Sergeant Bluff, IA, Patrick Samms of Hutchinson; great-grandson, Nathan Sevier of Wichita; and many extended family members.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; son, Kevin Samms; sisters, Betty Jean Book, Marilee Gatewood, Kathy Moffett; and brothers, Mike Book and Richard D. Book.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday, May 23, 2022, at Elliott Chapel. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The service will be livestreamed and the link below to view it will be active at 12:45 p.m. the day of her service.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 21, 2022, and 1 to 8 p.m., with family present from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, May 22, 2022, at Elliott Mortuary.
