Obituary

Gertie Yoder, 97, of Hutchinson, died August 3, 2021, at her home. She was born April 13, 1924, in Hutchinson, the daughter of Harmon and Lizzie (Garver) Yoder.

Gertie was a homemaker, farm wife, and enjoyed gardening. She was a member of Plainview Mennonite Church, where she was active in the church sewing circle and enjoyed piecing quilts in her younger years.

On August 15, 1948, Gertie married Melvin A. Yoder. They shared nearly 72 years of marriage before his death on July 2, 2020.

She is survived by: her children, Morris (Gloria) Yoder of Hutchinson, Marlene (Ben) Miller of Wichita, Marilyn (Bob) Swartzbeck of Fort Worth, TX, Lorena Perodin of Westminister, CO, and Doris (Randy) Yoder of Yuma, AZ; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Orpha (Cal) Nisly Clearwater, FL, Erma Yoder, Aroda, VA; brothers, Crist Yoder of Hutchinson, and Ora (Sharon) Yoder of Kingfisher, OK.

Gertie was preceded in death by: her parents; a granddaughter, Denise; brothers, Fred, Harley, Roy; and sisters Edna Nisly and Fannie Miller.

Graveside service will be 9 a.m. Friday, August 6, 2021, at Plainview Mennonite Church Cemetery, 5610 W. Trail West Rd., Hutchinson. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Memorials may be made to Helping Hands, in care of the church. Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, is in charge of arrangements.
