Gladys Eining, 89, died Dec. 9, 2010, at Elm Grove Estates. She was born Jan. 18, 1921, in Spearville, the daughter of Bernard "Ben" and Martha Marx Schuette. She was a longtime Spearville resident, moving to Dodge City in 1975 and then to Hutchinson in 2003. She was a cook with the Spearville Public Schools and then worked at Gibson's Discount Store in Dodge City.
She was a member of the Catholic Church and Daughters of Isabella.
On Feb. 17, 1942, she married Leo Edward Eining in Spearville. He died May 13, 1958. Survivors include: son, Dan and wife Martha, Salt Lake City; daughters, Sheryl Burkhart and husband Bob, Hutchinson, and Marlene Wetzel, Hays; son-in-law, John Matthews, Lawrence; brother, LeRoy Schuette, Montrose, Colo.; sister, Julie Schmitt, Wichita; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, an infant daughter, Victoria Lynn Eining, daughter, Nancy Matthews, sister, Lorena Falder and brothers, Wilbert, Bernard, Edward and Richard John Schuette.
Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Sunday Dec. 12, 2010, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson, with Father Nicholas Voelker presiding. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 13, 2010, at Church of the Holy Cross, Hutchinson, with Father Joseph Eckberg presiding. Graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. in St. John's Cemetery, Spearville, with Father Ted Stoecklein presiding. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary.
