Obituary

Gladys Birket Morrison, 98, died Aug. 2, 2006, at Thorne Care Center, Hutchinson.

She was born Oct. 17, 1907, in Tribune, the daughter of Myrtle Couchman Bowles. A longtime resident of Hutchinson, formerly of Arizona for several years, she was a homemaker.

She belonged to Trinity United Methodist Church and American Legion Auxiliary, Lysle Rishel Post No. 68. She had knitted hats for First Call for Help the last 13 years. She also had pieced quilts for family members.

She had been married to H.M. "Jack" Birket. He preceded her in death. On Dec. 19, 1965, she married George Morrison. He died Nov. 28, 1980.

Survivors include: two granddaughters, Kimberley Sorenson and husband, Jim, Abbyville, and Tara Kinnamon and husband, Clint, St. John; great-grandchildren, Becki Gaston and husband, Brian, Clarksville, Tenn., Krissi Sorenson, Hutchinson, Kade and Cole Kinnamon, St. John; great-great-grandchildren, Levi and Emilee Gaston, Clarksville, Tenn.; and cousins, Bernice Bengston, Windom, and Elanor Staggs, Wichita.

She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth E. Birket.

Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson, with Pastor Steve Gill presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.

Memorials may be sent to the Good Samaritan Fund at Wesley Towers or to Abbyville Community Center, both in care of the mortuary, 1219 North Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
