Glen E. Galliart, 78, passed away March 13, 2013, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born July 5, 1934, in Claflin, Kan., the son of Henry and Anna Grosshardt Galliart.
Glen graduated from Claflin High School in 1952, and came to Hutchinson to attend Salt City Business College, where he met and married Eileen Arnold on July 9, 1954.
Glen proudly served his country in the U.S. Army for eight years and was stationed in Paris, France, for a year with top-secret clearance status. He worked for Peel's Beauty Supply for 50 years and helped Bob Peel Sr. start and build the business into a multi-million dollar operation. After retirement, Glen became a "Driving Miss Daisy" with his driving service as he transported many people to and from the Wichita and Kansas City airports. He also drove for the Fox Theatre, transporting many famous people from the entertainment industry to and from the airport as a volunteer for the theatre. It was a much-loved service Glen provided for friends and many others, as they could always trust Glen to be there for them when they needed him.
Glen was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church for 58 years and a member of the Doers Sunday school class. He especially enjoyed being a door greeter and showing the children how to properly greet someone by shaking hands. He volunteered many years at the American Legion Lysle Rishel Post #68, the NJCAA tournaments, coached youth baseball and was a Cub Scout leader. He was an avid golfer and member of Prairie Dunes Country Club for many years.
He is survived by: his wife, Eileen of the home; son, John and wife Donna of Wichita; four grandchildren, Todd and wife Melissa, Kyle and wife Alice, and Tyler, all of Wichita, Jessica of Chicago; a great-grandchild, Jacob Matthew Galliart; two brothers, Gene and wife Evelyn of Oklahoma City, and Herb and wife Sue of Cloquet, Minn.; and numerous nieces and nephews, who were all a big part of their Uncle Glen's life.
Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 18, 2013, at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 17th and Main, with Reverends Michael McGuire and Jim Rhaesa officiating. At Glen's request, his body will be cremated and inurnment will follow the memorial service at Fairlawn Cemetery, Hutchinson. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday through Sunday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
