Obituary

Glenda Fern Hooker, 84, died Oct. 4, 2014, at Pleasant View Home, Inman. She was born Feb. 8, 1930, in Sylvia, the daughter of Glen Lyman and Helen Leinweber Gaston. She was a lifetime Reno County resident, a 1948, graduate of Sylvia High School, graduated from Adele Hale Business College, and attended classes at Hutchinson Community College.

On Dec. 2, 1950, Glenda married George Junior Hooker, in Hutchinson. They later divorced. She was an insurance underwriter for Wade Patton Insurance Company, and attended First Southern Baptist Church.

Survivors include: sons, Melvin and wife Kimberly, and Steven and wife Vicki; daughters, Velma Carlson and husband Mark, and Karen Atkinson and husband Kent, all of Hutchinson; brothers, Alva Lee Gaston, Langdon, and Carl Gaston, of South Hutchinson; sisters, Arlene Gaston of Parker, Colo., Darla Rundell of Topeka, and Marilyn Hamilton, of Inola, Okla.; nine grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 13 step-great-grandchildren. Glenda was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Donald.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2014, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor Matt Stafford presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Sylvia Cemetery.
