Glenn L. "Butch" O'Neal, 70, died June 19, 2014, near South Hutchinson. He was born March 7, 1944, in Hutchinson, to Robert and Thelma May (Stewart) O'Neal.
He graduated from Partridge Rural High School in 1963. On April 29, 1966, Butch married Linda Goble, in Hutchinson. He served in the Air National Guard and retired from the United States Army and Army Reserve. Butch was a member of the American Legion Lysle Rishel Post #68 and the V.F.W. Bob Campbell Post #1361. He worked as a journeyman/lineman for 20 years at Ark Valley Electric, then for seven years as the assistant business manager for IBEW #304, followed by 20 years at PAR Electric, until his retirement in July 2010. He had an excellent work ethic and many of his friends and family members remember him as the toughest guy they knew. Butch loved his grandchildren. He enjoyed KU Sports, NASCAR, cooking and golf.
Survivors include: wife, Linda O'Neal of Eudora; daughter, Melissa Turpin (Chris) of Lawrence; son, Patrick O'Neal (Dymond) of Hutchinson; six siblings, James O'Neal (Doris) of Hutchinson, Don O'Neal (Willy) of Hutchinson, Mary Kay Wells of Mahopac, NY, Steven O'Neal of Ellsworth, Kenneth O'Neal of Hutchinson, and Susan Steward of Hutchinson; six grandchildren, Brendan Martinez, Colin O'Neal, Kennedy O'Neal, Riley Turpin, Regan Turpin, and McHaley O'Neal; and mother-in-law, Helen Goble of Hutchinson. He was preceded in death by: his parents; two sisters, Patricia Goss and Barbara Pitzer; and three brothers, Robert, Ernest and Ronald O'Neal.
Celebration of Butch's life will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Jim O'Neal and Pastor Wayne Pittman officiating. Burial will be at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery and Mausoleum, Hutchinson. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Elliott Mortuary.
