Obituary

Glenn Edwin Nisly, 95, formerly of Yoder, died May 29, 2026, at Mennonite Friendship Communities, South Hutchinson. He was born October 28, 1930, in Hutchinson, to Eli Edward and Catherine “Katie” (Yoder) Nisly.

Glenn was in the 1-W Service as a registered conscientious objector in Topeka. Following his 24-month service, he moved to Yoder. Glenn worked 26 years for Detroiter Mobile Homes, performing a variety of jobs. In addition, he was a “hobby” farmer, with an appreciation for the land. After retirement, Glenn drove the Amish to any destination of their choosing, from trips to the grocery store to visiting relatives. He thoroughly enjoyed all the connections, conversations, and fellowship afforded during the trips, and Glenn was able to visit 49 states. Above all, he was dedicated to his faith and family. Glenn was a member of Clinton Frame Church, Goshen, IN and attended Journey@South Hutchinson.

On December 30, 1956, he married Nora Miller, at Yoder Mennonite Church. She died December 22, 1984. On April 10, 1993, he married Fannie (Chupp) Bontrager in Goshen, IN. She died June 25, 2025.

Glenn is survived by: children, Duane Nisly (Cathy) of Hutchinson, Omar Nisly (Kim) of Partridge, and Donna Shafer (Jerry) of Hutchinson; stepchildren, Ken Bontrager (Liz), Dorothy Bontrager (Lee) and Steve Bontrager, all of Indiana; stepson-in-law, Tom Kurtz of Indiana; grandchildren, Joshua Nisly, Jennifer Nisly, Jacob Nisly (fiancée Kami Bankston), Jerrod Shafer (Emily), Austin Shafer (Janae), and Jordan Shafer (Jenna); four great-grandchildren; numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; siblings, Elizabeth Hochstetler, Alvin Nisly (Sharon), and Mary Miller; sisters-in-law, Bea Nisly and Esther Nisly; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and the Miller siblings and their families, who were always so good to Glenn.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; brothers, Lloyd Nisly (Viola), Earl Nisly and Paul Nisly; sister, Emma Mae Helmuth (Omar); brothers-in-law, Eli Hochstetler and Joe Miller; and stepdaughter, Eva Kurtz.
