Obituary

Glennis E. Goldsmith, 90, died March 11, 2011, at Thorne Care Center, Wesley Towers.

She was born Nov. 5, 1920, in Iola, to Lloyd and Bertha Brannum Ayers.

She graduated from Iola High School in 1938 and Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia in 1942. A Hutchinson resident since 1954, she and her husband retired to Sun City, Ariz., in 1993. Following the death of her husband, she returned to Hutchinson in 2004. Prior to moving to Arizona, she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, PEO Chapter D, Hutchinson Music Club, Salt City Quiller's Club, DAR, and was a former Community Concert board member. She directed the Chorister and Westminster youth choirs at First Presbyterian Church, and directed two Hutch Recreation choruses: Singing Sons and Revelaires. While in Arizona, she organized and directed a large mixed chorus at Paradise Park Resort. She also taught piano lessons for many years.

On Dec. 20, 1941, she married William "Bill" Goldsmith. He preceded her in death on June 11, 1999.

Survivors include: a son, Tom Goldsmith and wife Cindy, McPherson; daughters, Jan Wilson and husband Carlos, Sun City West, Ariz., Chery Lackey and husband Lynn, Hutchinson, and Kim McGrew and husband Kelly, Frisco, Colo.; eight grandchildren, Karlynn Young, Lehi, Utah, Greg and Tim Lackey, Hutchinson, Missy Mead, Olathe, Lacee Sell, Plattsburg, Mo., Dayne Goldsmith, Liberty, Mo., and Molly and Megan McGrew, Frisco, Colo.; three step-grandchildren, Claire, Graham and Cole Krizek, McPherson; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 17, 2011, at First Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Amy Dame officiating. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. The body will be cremated. The family will receive friends following the service in the church parlor.

Memorials may be sent to First Presbyterian Church or Hospice of Reno County, in care of the mortuary.
